1 dead, 2 seriously injured in crash near Santiam Summit
SANTIAM SUMMIT, Ore. - An 86-year-old driver died when her Ford Fusion hit a patch of ice and slid headlong into an oncoming Volvo SUV.
The Volvo's driver and his passenger, both from Hillsboro, were transported by ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with non-life threatening injuries.
The woman who lost control of her Ford Fusion near Santiam Summit just after 9 a.m. Monday was from Grand Junction, Colo., police said.
Police are not releasing the identities of the people involved until contact has been made with their families.
The crash caused delays and closures for hours on Highway 20, one of the main routes between the Willamette Valley and Central Oregon.
