NORTH BEND, Ore. -- The North Bend Police Department will soon have four new officers joining the force.

North Bend’s City Council gave the green light for the department to start the recruitment process back in April.

Since then, one of the four officers from their eligibility list has been sworn in. Three others are now going through background checks.

Police Chief Rob Kappelman says the new officers will help his team provide more services to the community.

"We'll be able to transition to a different shift, a 10-hour shift allowing an overlap of officers during critical times during the day, high call volume times and the citizens should see an increased level of policing and availability to answer calls for service."

Kappelman says he hopes to have the three additional officers sworn in by the middle of August.
