2 killed in head-on crash on Hwy 38 near Reedsport; speed, icy roads likely factors
REEDSPORT, Ore. - Two women died Monday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 38, Oregon State Police said.
The crash happened at 7:26 a.m., east of Reedsport.
A 2009 Kia Rio driven by Lisa Oswill, 48, of Tigard crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a 2015 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lacy Little Deer Santos, 37, of Scottsburg.
Both Oswill and her passenger, Carly Renee Williams-Oswill, 21, died in the crash.
Santos was taken by ambulance to a Eugene hospital with serious injuries, police said. She is expected to survive.
Her passenger - 15-year-old Kylee Louise Santas - was taken to the hospital in Reedsport with serious injuries, police said. She is expected to survive.
"Speed and icy roads are being considered factors in this crash," state police said.
The crash investigation and response closed the highway for 3 hours.
According to authorities, the Kia was eastbound and the Jeep had been westbound at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing and future updates will be coordinated with the Douglas County District Attorney's Office, Oregon State Police said.
