5K raises $2K to go to Relay for Life

COOS BAY, Ore. -- More than $2,000 was raised this weekend in Coos Bay, all of it going to fight cancer.

More than 70 people showed up at Empire Lakes Saturday morning to run in the St. Patrick's Day 5K.

All of the money raised will go to the Relay for Life chapter of Coos Bay.

Heather Arzie is one of the event organizers, and she says she feels strongly about the cause. "I hate cancer. It effects everyone, and this is just my way of giving back," she said.

Participants had to run two laps around the trails at Empire Lakes.

Prizes were given to the top three fastest men and women, and the fastest time run on Saturday was 19 minutes.

If you missed out on this 5K, there are still opportunities to get involved.

The Coos Bay Relay for Life event will take place again this summer, and a breast cancer 5K will take place in the fall.
