Americorps NCCC is a team-based residential program for people between the ages of 18 and 24.
Their mission is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based community service.
Right here in Coos County a team of 10 is addressing our community's needs for the next six to eight weeks.
"It's really rewarding to be working on a project were you get so many interactions we are doing so many different things and seeing so many different things everyday. It's exciting to be here" says Core Member, Renee Roush.
The group is teaming up with Oregon Coast Community Action and working at the South Coast Food Share, and at various Head Start programs throughout Coos County.
They are also providing an Energy Education program for students to learn about energy and water conservation.
Roush tells KC, not only is the program rewarding because of all they do for the community- it helps Americorps NCCC members pay for college.
"I think that it is a program that is really beneficial for people. It's pretty cool for people that want to earn money to pay off student loans, or people that want to earn money to start going to college" continues Roush.
After these members complete 1,700 hours of community service, they get 5,000 dollars.
