As graduation approaches, Coos County college students meet potential employers at forum
COOS BAY, Ore. -- Graduation season is almost here and this week college students had a chance to meet local employers.
Southwestern Oregon Community College hosted a local hiring forum Wednesday afternoon.
The students went through a mock round of interviews and were able to ask questions of professionals from several industries.
Organizers said the forum was designed to help students get themselves ready for the work force.
"I think it's important for any of the students to get a general idea of what people are looking for after college,” said SWOCC student Sonnie Olsen. “A lot of kids graduate college and don't know what to do and how to look for careers so coming to this forum was really helpful for me to learn how to prepare for finding a job."
Some of the employers shared advice with these students about to enter the work force.
"Go out there and get some real life experience and I think beyond that is find something that they're passionate about,” said Bandon Dunes director of resources Alex White. “Don't just take a job to take a job; find something that they're interested in, something that they enjoy. And that will allow them to really be successful at what they do."
About 80 students and more than three dozen employers were at the forum.
