Bay Area Fun Festival kicks off Saturday
COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Prefontaine Memorial run is just one part of the Bay Area Fun Festival this weekend.
For more than four decades the bay area has celebrated the end of summer with the festival.
The two-day event includes a beer garden, live entertainment, parade, car show, and a rock and gem show.
Nearly a hundred vendors will be set up on Central Avenue in downtown Coos Bay.
Money raised by the Fun Festival goes to support various youth programs in the community.
"It's also youth-oriented in the fact that it's something that this bay area needs because we are still depressed, and these kids are the ones that need help and that's what we're all about," says festival organizer Carolyn Demetz.
The parade kicks off at one 1 p.m. Saturday.
Parts of 4th Street, Commercial, 2nd Street, Elrod and Anderson will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the parade.
Those streets will be closed off for the Cruz the Coos car show on Saturday night from 5:30-8 p.m.
