Bay Area Hospital home to surgery robot
COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- Bay Area Hospital is now home to the most technically advanced robotic surgery system in the world, according to officials at the facility.
The hospital recently added the robotic system named Da Vinci.
The machine can be used for several different procedures, and provides doctors an up close 3-D view that wasn't possible before.
Dr. Steven Tersigni, a surgeon at BAH, says they now have a way to make surgeries a little smoother. "It gives us the ability to do more operations in a minimally invasive way that we could not in the past, less blood loss and hopefully less hospital stay there, so the patients can go home earlier," he said.
Doctors say they do lose the sense of touch using the machine, but the benefits far outweigh any drawbacks.
