Big plans for Southwest Oregon Regional Airport

NORTH BEND, Ore. -- Service expansions are on the horizons for the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport.

Construction crews are nearing completion of the airport's new hangar, which will allow them to store a few more planes.

The North Bend airport also received a $1 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, which will help cover the $20 million needed for a new terminal building.

Airport executive director Theresa Cook said the airport is hoping to get a corporate tenant or business with a jet service that would use the new terminal.

"We are advertising in national air transportation magazines and national business aircraft association magazines, but I feel confident that with all that's going on at the airport and in the area, that we're going to have a strong tenant here," said Cook.

She said they are also planning to build a new fire station at the airport to house a second fire engine.
