Coast Guard change-of-command welcomes new captain to Sector North Bend
NORTH BEND, Ore. -- Coast Guard Sector North Bend held a change-of-command ceremony Friday morning.
Family, friends and fellow Coast Guard members gathered for the time honored tradition and watched as Captain Michael Trimpert was relieved by Captain Michael Mullen.
Mullen is now the acting commander for Sector North Bend.
He brings with him military experience, which includes two meritorious service medals and two Coast Guard recommendation medals.
He says he hopes to improve processes and efficiency.
"The national budget is never getting small so if there's way to do things better, that's something I'd like to try and do and make things more efficient, but I want to make it a team approach; I want to make sure that everybody feels part of the team,” said Mullen, “so that's not just people here on Sector North Bend, but also people in the community and along the Oregon coast."
The term of a sector commander lasts three years.
