COOS BAY, Ore. – The Coast Guard medically evacuated a crewmember from a cargo vessel west of Coos Bay Sunday.

The Coast Guard Sector North Bend received a report from the Daio Papyrus crew at 8:15 p.m. Saturday requesting a medical response for a crewmember who suffered a severe laceration to his head.

At the time of the call, the Coast Guard decided to wait until first light to remove the crewmember due to the sea state and the condition of the crewmember. The vessel was about 10 miles west of Coos Bay.

At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the injured crewmember from the Daio Papyrus and transported the crewmember safely to Sector North Bend. Local emergency personnel took him to the Bay Area Hospital.
