Coast Guard places restrictions on large vessels crossing into Coos Bay Harbor
COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Coast Guard has placed limitations on large vessels crossing into the Coos Bay Harbor.
It announced Friday that deep-draft vessels cannot cross into the harbor due to possible debris from the crabbing boat Sara Jo that capsized near the north jetty last week.
Deep-draft vessels are the only boats affected by the closure, but the Coast Guard advises all boats to be on the lookout for floating debris.
The Coast Guard is working with the Army Corp of Engineers to do a sonar survey of the channel, which will be scheduled when whether permits.
