Coos Bay community celebrates program aimed at jump-starting rural economies
COOS BAY, Ore. -- A new tourism program was celebrated by the Coos Bay community Wednesday.
The Rural Tourism Studio program was honored at Coos History Museum.
It's a Travel Oregon program designed to assist rural communities interested in jump-starting their local economies.
The focus of the program was around outdoor recreation, culinary and agri-tourism.
Local steering committee representatives include the Mill Casino and the South Coast Development Council.
"This part of the Oregon coast really has a lot of assets to offer and it's a little bit undiscovered,” said Kristin Dahl with Travel Oregon, “and I think this kind of a program will help pull those assets together and create better experiences for both locals and visitors."
Dahl said local action teams were created to pull the region together to share the south coast with the rest of the world.
