Coos Bay man arrested on murder charge arraigned in circuit court
COQUILE, Ore. -- A Coos Bay man arrested and charged with the murder of his grand father was in court Tuesday morning in Coos County.
James Jay Thomasson was arraigned on a charge of murder pertaining to the death of Elmer Dennis on Sunday, December 10 in Coos County Circuit Court.
The judge ordered Thomasson be held at the Coos County Jail, the district attorney said, with security set at $2 million.
"The case was set over to Monday, December 18, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.," said Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier. "I anticipate that the case will be presented to the Coos County Grand Jury later this week."
The DA said Thomasson killed Dennis at his home on Minnesota Avenue Sunday.
Authorities said several people called 911 to report an assault at the home.
Police found Thomasson under a deck and had to use a taser to bring him in.
Police continue to investigate the matter, the DA said.
