Coos Bay Police joins other agencies in safety belt blitz
COOS BAY, Ore. -- Coos Bay Police is joining other Oregon law enforcement agencies for a seat belt enforcement campaign this week.
The program focuses on increasing public awareness of seat belt laws in an effort to reduce traffic injuries.
The campaign will put more officers on the lookout for traffic violations.
They'll focus attention on safety seat violations and drivers texting while driving.
"My main message would be to simply buckle up, make sure that any safety seats for children are installed properly, and put that cell phone down and eliminate as many distractions from driving as possible," says Coos Bay Police Detective Sgt. Michael Shaffer.
The seat belt enforcement campaign continues through May 28.
It's the second of three campaigns happening this year.
