COOS BAY, Ore. -- A local non-profit organization is awarding its biggest grant yet to local classrooms and teachers.

The Coos Bay School Community Foundation has been in place since 2006.

Through community partnerships they work the whole year to raise money for arts, academics, and athletics, all to benefit students.

Later this month the foundation will award over $45,000 in grants to the Coos Bay district.

"We try to give grants in two areas, one that will provide opportunities to kids who otherwise wouldn't have those opportunities, so we help subsidize field trips or help pay sports fees and things like that, and the other thing we want to do is enrich the educational experience so that the quality of education our students are receiving is of a higher caliber," says foundation president Jennifer Groth.

This year's grants will be announced at an all staff meeting set for August 28th.
