COOS BAY, Ore. -- Students in the Coos Bay School District will see longer Fridays when the next school year starts up.

School officials say changes to the calendar were made to add more instructional time and to take pressure off teachers.

Students will still get out of school early on Fridays, but it will be later in the afternoon.

For Sunset and Millicoma students, the new out-time will be 12:40 p.m. instead of 11:50 a.m.

For Blossom Gulch and Madison it'll be 1 p.m.

For Marshfield and the Harding Building it'll be 1:20 p.m.

"It will provide our teachers the ability to have a little extra time for instructions,” says Coos Bay Schools Superintendent Bryan Trendell, “so hopefully that impact will be on kids in their learning and our kids will have an opportunity for more instructional time on Fridays to increase their learning."

The changes will take effect in the fall.
