Coos Bay to lay out ground rules for warming centers and shelters
COOS BAY. Ore.-- Coos Bay is looking for better ways to manage warming centers.
The Devereux Center is the only warming center in the city.
Organizations and groups that want to open their space as a warming center are now evaluated and approved on a case-by-case basis.
City officials now want to lay out ground rules for all those facilities.
"We recognized that we really need to have a process so that, if another organization other than the Devereux Center or the other ones we've worked with in the past would like to be a warming center, that we're consistent with each application," says Coos Bay Fire Department’s Mark Anderson.
Anderson says they're also looking to have a system in place for businesses that want to serve as temporary shelters.
