Coquille girls finish 5th at state tourney
COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Coquille girls’ basketball team made it back to the Oregon Class 3A State Basketball Tournament for the second year in a row.
And to close out the 2016-2017 season, they walked away with the fifth-place trophy at Marshfield High School Saturday.
On Friday the Red Devils took on Dayton in the semifinals in a rematch of last year’s semifinal game between the two teams, which Dayton won.
It was a physical matchup and a nail biter of a finish, but Coquille fell once again to the Pirates, 55-45.
Saturday morning the Red Devils took on the Salem Academy Crusaders and fell 36-17 in the 3rd place game.
As for the rest of the tournament, Dayton's girls wound up falling to Blanchet Catholic in the championship game.
On the boys’ side, Dayton also played for the title, defeating La Salle North Catholic to take 64-55 to take the state championship.
