Coquille teen awarded special honor at Miss Oregon pageant
SEASIDE, Ore. -- A young woman from Coos County stood out over the weekend in a crowded field at Miss Oregon’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Seaside, snagging a special award at the event.
Sammie Huffman of Coquille is Miss Coos County's Outstanding Teen for 2017 and she won a special award in the teen competition: Miss Congeniality.
It's an award voted on by fellow pageant competitors and given to the competitor who lent a helping hand to other contestants.
"It made me feel so happy that everyone felt about me that way because I try to make everyone's stay better and that's really what I go up there to do,” said Huffman. “I compete to do my best, but I want to help everyone else do their best as well, so getting this award made me so happy, and I was just on cloud nine."
Sammie said she is looking forward to competing in more pageants.
