NORTH BEND, Ore. – The newest K9 member of the Coquille Tribal Police Department has joined the staff.

Ben is a 16-month-old springer spaniel.

He joined the department about five weeks ago and will be working throughout the community with different narcotics teams.

Don't let his appearances fool you; Ben is drug-hunting canine.

"He's a real sweet dog, but he's a high energy, high hunting dog that's gonna have a lot of success," said the department’s Robert Scoville.

Ben is a three-odor narcotic detection dog with the ability to detect odors from heroine, methamphetamine and cocaine.
