UPDATE: Suspect taken into custody on warrant alleging attempted murder, assault and robbery

NORTH BEND, Ore. - A man found covered in blood walking down a major street Thursday afternoon is now in critical condition at a Portland hospital, the Coos County District Attorney said.

Calls to 911 reported seeing a man covered in blood walking on Broadway Avenue just before 4 p.m.

Police found the man at the corner of Broadway and 14th Street.

He was taken to Bay Area Hospital and later flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

The man - identified as Mark Eugene Hendrix, 30 - suffered a skull fracture, a broken eye orbit and a broken nose, according to Paul Frasier, the Coos County district attorney.

"His injuries appear to have been the result of an assault involving some sort of a blunt object being used to strike Mr. Hendrix on the head," Frasier said. "The skull fracture has caused significant brain injury."

Investigators believe they have determined where the assault took place. The Coos County Major Crime Team investigated and took a suspect into custody.
