District Attorney rules that Coos Bay officers were justified in shooting man
COOS BAY, Ore. - Coos County District Attorney, Paul Frasier, has ruled that the officer-involved shooting of a Coos Bay man was justified.
An autopsy shows that Eric Sweet, of Coos Bay, was shot in the head, neck, abdomen and legs eight times. He was shot by officers from the Coos Bay Police Department, the Confederated Tribal Police and Oregon State Police.
"He was refusing to put the gun down, he was telling them that it's loaded and then he starts to point it at someone," said Frasier. "At that point, you're entitled to defend yourself and use deadly force in that situation."
Frasier says it's up to the individual agencies to decide when the officers will return to work.
