DNA IDs body; sheriff investigating death as homicide

ROSEBURG, Ore. - DNA testing positively identified remains found last summer as a Myrtle Creek woman reported missing in January 2011.

The death of Deborah Schneider, 55, is being investigated as a homicide, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.

Schneider was last seen in February 2010.

Her family reported her missing January 24, 2011, after not having had any contact with her in over a year.

Prior to going missing, Schneider told a friend that she was considering checking into an alcohol rehabilitation center, possibly in the Eugene area.

The remains were found June 30, 2012, and tentatively identified as Schneider.

On Monday of this week, the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification reported DNA testing identified the remains as Schneider.
