Driver spends 12 hours in car with dead passenger in Hwy 101 crash
CANNON BEACH, Ore. - A Vancouver woman spent 12 hours trapped in a car with her dead passenger before being found by a hitchhiker after an accident near Cannon Beach on Sunday, Oregon State Police said.
Ruth A. Delgado, 23, of Los Angeles was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gabriela Rayon, 21, of Vancouver, Wash., was sent to a hospital in Astoria with serious injuries, but is now at Portland's Legacy Emanuel in fair condition.
Sunday night around 8:30, a hitchhiker reported he'd heard cries for help coming from down a hill near milepost 28 on Highway 101.
Police said an early investigation indicated the car had driven off the road, down the hill and into a tree at least 12 hours before. It finally stopped in heavy brush and wasn't visible from the road.
Oregon State Police are still investigating the cause.
