Evacuation orders in place for Chetco Bar fire in Curry County

Chetco Bar Fire (U.S. Forest Service- Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest)

A Level 3 or Go! evacuation order have been issued for some residents living near the Chetco Bar Fire.

U.S. Forest Service and County Sheriff placed mandatory evacuation orders at 8:15 a.m., Friday.

The Level 3 (GO!) alerts residents to evacuate within 24 hours as danger imminent. Evacuation orders are in place for the wilderness area along the river above Loeb State Park, as well as Gardiner Ridge up to Hazel Camp, Loeb State Park, Cate Road, and the Wilson Creek area.

The Curry County Sheriff says if the fire moves west there will be more evacuations on the north side of the river. Currently county commissioners are drafting a declaration of emergency.


The order applies for residents and campers in the Wilderness Retreat Community, Chetco Bar Resort, Redwood Bar, Nook Bar, Miller Bar and east of Road 1107.

Originally located Quail Prairie area into the Kalmiopsis Wilderness . An infrared flight estimates the fire at 10,963 acres.

The Red Cross will operate evacuation shelters for wildfire evacuees in Brookings at Brookings Harbor High School on 625 Pioneer Rd.

A community meeting will be held on Sunday, August 20th from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Azalea Middle School located on 505 Pacific Ave in Brookings.

Rene Moulton shared this photo and says, "Smoke - LOTS of smoke over Brookings/Harbor at 12:15 PM... Chetco Bar Fire has caused for a call to evacuate above Loeb Park, all residents and campers/tourists."

Bug Bontrager says in his post, "Brookings with ash and little debris falling. Smoke in the air."
