LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. - A former competitive cheerleader who attended Lake Oswego High School faces prostitution charges, according to court documents.
Police also say that 19-year-old Julia Lynn Haner recruited a 17-year-old girl from the high school to work as a prostitute. Court documents say the two used to ride together on the school bus.
Police say Haner's pimp, 30-year-old Konrod Steven Mason, faces charges of sex trafficking of a minor and transporting a minor for prostitution.
Police found the 17-year-old victim during a prostitution sting. That teenager is now safe.
Haner pleaded not guilty in federal court Monday to the charge of sex trafficking of a minor.
Prosecutors say she became a stripper after high school. Then she got into prostitution and reached out to the 17-year-old through Facebook.
Court documents say Haner was "lonely working as a prostitute by herself."
Haner's grandmother, Kathleen, who only wanted to be identified by her first name, told KATU that her granddaughter lost touch with family in the last couple of weeks and was occasionally texting as if nothing was wrong for months.
She told them she wanted to do her own thing and be an adult, but they didn't expect this.
"She's always been a good girl, and I don't know what people she got mixed up with," Haner's grandmother told KATU. "Maybe I didn't know her. She was raised good -- and all of us are in just shock."
According to court documents, Mason told the 17-year-old victim she had to give up everything for him. They say he also had sex with her.
He pleaded not guilty Monday as well.
Both Haner and Mason are accused with taking the victim across state lines. Prosecutors say the two were also saving up to send her to Alaska to be a prostitute.
