Grant will help Coos County organization work to solve housing crisis
COOS BAY, Ore. -- Coos County has been wrestling with a housing crisis for years.
Now a grant has been awarded to help local organizations work on solving the housing shortage.
United Way received $30,000 from the Oregon Community Foundation last Thursday.
The money will be used for a comprehensive Coos housing study.
"We have a need for different kinds of housing in the area -- transitional housing and personal housing -- so the housing study takes all of that and wraps it up all together, but it will also give us information on where we should go next, where do we want to start approaching things, what are the barriers, that is stopping us from having that kind of housing in the area," said United Way of Southwestern Oregon’s Marcia Hart.
Hart says housing study focus groups will be held this week.
