Health advisory lifted for Sunset, Hubbard Creek and Mill beaches

COOS BAY, Ore. -- Public Health officials lifted a health advisory after high levels of fecal bacteria were found at Sunset, Hubbard Creek and Mill Beaches. Recent tests show fecal bacteria levels have subsided and the water no longer poses a higher than normal risk.

A second round of samples showed that the contamination had subsided.

The State Public Health Board still recommends people stay out of large runoff pools near a lot of birds, as there could be large amounts of fecal contamination.

State officials used a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant to check the major Oregon beaches for high levels of bacteria through the year.
