LEBANON, Ore. – A man is facing attempted murder after deputies said he fired a rifle at his brother during a Mother’s Day barbecue at a home in Lebanon.

Billy Jack Gomez, 35, was booked into the Linn County Jail on Sunday for attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon charges.

Deputies learned that Billy Jack lives with his mother and 34-year-old brother, Hunter Gomez, at a house on Vaughn Lane.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said the mom was having a Mother’s Day barbecue with her sons when they got into “a brief scuffle.”

While Hunter was at the grill, deputies say Billy Jack went into the house, got a high-powered rifle, and fired it through the screen door.

The bullet narrowly missed Hunter and struck the ground, officials said.

There were no reports of injuries in the shooting.
