Library board eyes options as building starts to sink
COOS BAY, Ore. -- As the coos bay public library slowly sinks, library officials are searching for an affordable way to fix the problem.
While the structure is safe to enter, city officials said they aren't sure how long it will continue to stand.
Library board members estimate it would cost about $6 million to rebuild the library.
"It doesn't seem, from the meetings in our community, there were a lot of people for rebuilding because it's so expensive. The feeling is it would be cheaper just to relocate," said city councilor and library board member Jennifer Groth.
The board held public meetings Thursday to ask the community where they would want a new library, should they choose to relocate.
