Man from Philomath charged with over 70 counts of sexual abuse
CORVALLIS, Ore. - A 39-year-old man, identified as Richard Leroy Knudson was arrested on Monday at approximately 7:00 p.m. after being accused of sexually assaulting a female family member.
Knudson was charged with 24 counts of Sex Abuse I, 24 counts of Sex Abuse II and 24 accounts of Unlawful Sexual Penetration II, as well as Public Indecency.
On March 4, the female family member disclosed to the Benton County Sheriff's Office that she had repeatedly been sexually assaulted by Knudson over the past few months.
Knudson was interviewed by detectives and was later taken into custody. He is now being lodged in the Benton County Jail.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public of this arrest due to Knudson's involvement with youth activities in the Philomath and surrounding areas.
The superintendent at Eddyville Charter School said Knudson was a volunteer supervisor at open gym activites for about 3 weeks prior to his arrest. Knudson will not be allowed back at school.
School officials contacted parents who were part of the activities. So far, the school has found no evidence that Knudson was ever alone with a child by himself at the school.
