COQUILLE, Ore. -- A Coos Bay man will spend nearly seven years behind bars for a crime he committed last year.
Douglas Reed is accepting a plea deal.
Authorities say he kidnapped and strangled a woman in 2012.
Reed had repeatedly asked for a delay to a trial date or plea deal, hoping the charges against him would be dropped.
On Wednesday, a judge forced Reed to choose to accept a deal or head to trial.
Authorities say that they received a 911 call in January, from someone who said they saw a man beating and choking a woman in the street on Welch Road.
The caller told police the man then drug the woman into a residence.
Coos County Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Confederated Tribal Police and contacted the man, who they identified as Reed.
The 48-year-old female told them that she knew Reed, and that they had, "a longstanding dislike for one another," officials said.
