COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Mingus Park pool in Coos Bay is offering free swim lessons to anyone in the community on Monday nights starting in July.
For the second year in a row, the pool is giving away a free swim and safety lesson.
Pool manager Kathe McNutt said it is important for people in the coastal community to know how to swim.
"We're surrounded by water so unfortunately (there are) several deaths a year in the community," said McNutt. "Not everybody gets the opportunity to be able to pay for lessons, so it's just something we can do for the community. It's something my swimmers, my athletes can help and volunteer."
The first of six Monday swim nights will be held July 7 from 7 to 9.
