Miss Coos County Scholarship Program looking for young women to apply
COOS BAY, Ore. -- The Miss Coos County Scholarship Program is looking for young women to apply for next year's competition.
Young women between the ages of 13 and 24 are invited to apply for the 2018 program.
Organizers say it's a great way to earn scholarship money for young women.
They say the program has provided scholarship opportunities for the past 30 years.
"Not only are we allowed to give girls opportunities to earn scholarship money and further their education, we also give girls confidence, we help them hone in on talents that they might have been working on for a long time and give them more opportunities down the road to improve their lives," says Miss Coos County director Amee Springsteen.
A past winner says thanks to scholarships from the program, she graduated debt-free from college and is now working as a nurse at Bay Area Hospital.
"That's what’s so amazing about this…it does enable young women like myself to go to college, to be debt-free, and become educated individuals so that we can give back to our communities,” says Miss Coos County 2016 Quinlyn Deming, “and that's exactly what I'm doing by working at the hospital, and I plan on staying in Coos County and giving back to the community that's given me so much."
Applications for the Miss Coos County Scholarship Program are being accepted until October 21.
