Missing St. Louis man dies in Coos County crash
NORTH BEND, Ore. -- Coos County Sheriff's Office says a crash that occurred on Transpacific Highway took the life of a St. Louis, Missouri, man who was reported missing days earlier.
Around 9:23 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office received a report of a crash around milepost 1.5 on Transpacific Highway in North Bend near the Roseburg Forest Products terminal.
The crash involved a small, eastbound sedan, which reportedly left the roadway and crashed into a parked Coos Bay Rail Link rail car loaded with lumber.
The sedan was driven by 31-year-old Nathan J. Jatcko of St. Louis, Missouri. He did not survive the crash, police said.
The rail car was stationary and the train was not in operation, the report said.
Police said there were no other vehicles involved in the crash and Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the cause and manner of death.
Jatcko had been reported as a missing/endangered person on January 12, 2018, by the St. Louis Police Department in Missouri, authorities said.
The investigation was conducted by the Coos County Sheriff‘s Office with assistance of Oregon State Police, and the Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office. North Bay Fire Department was also involved with managing the scene.
