Mitchell at home with state police in Coos Bay

COOS BAY, Ore. - The Oregon State Police command office has a new commander.

Lt. Steve Mitchell is in his first month on the job.

He recently celebrated his 17th anniversary with state police and said there's no better place to be than home in Coos Bay.

Mitchell was born and raised in Coos County. He has worked across the state, most recently with the Oregon State University campus office.

"My dad was a trooper here at this very office, and he retired 23 years ago, so I just followed in his footsteps," Mitchell said. "It feels great to be back home. Coos County has always been well-known throughout the law enforcement networks and communities as being able to work very well together. We're basically all one great big team down here which advantageous for everyone."

Mitchell said he is looking forward to carrying out OSP's mission of crash reduction and roadway safety.
