New Charleston sidewalk spurs celebration
CHARLESTON, Ore. -- They were celebrating in Charleston on Thursday, and the wild women of Charleston even wrote a special song for the big event.
After years of planning and months of construction, the Boat Basin Drive project is finally finished.
About 60 community members and officials gathered at the Charleston Marina RV Park for a celebration.
The project was a collaboration of a lot of different groups.
Kathleen Hornstuen of the Charleston Community Enhancement Corp., told KCBY News she expected the good turnout for the party. "When the port was talking about having a celebration, I thought, 'who would come?' Then I thought, 'you know what, probably everyone would come,' because I think everyone is just really happy about this project being done and it's turned out really nice. It's a beautiful sidewalk," she said.
Now that Charleston has the sidewalk, drainage system and the light poles they've always wanted, residents say they need to work to keep it looking nice.
