New gym rising from the ashes at Lookingglass Elementary
LOOKINGGLASS, Ore. - A new gym is under construction at Lookingglass Elementary, where a fire destroyed the building in 2016.
School district officials hope to finish the new gym by the end of 2018.
The new facility will replace the century-old building that served as a cafeteria, library and even skating rink to hundreds of students.
School officials say it's been tough not having the extra space.
"Definitely been a crunch," Principal Oriole Inkster said, "but we've pulled together and some ways we're closer because of it. because we've all had to work together."
The school has been using just the main school building since the fire. Insurance will cover the replacement gym and library.
