New program helps Coos County people find and secure secure housing
COOS BAY, Ore. -- A new program aims to help people in Coos County find and secure housing.
The Devereux Center was awarded a $150,000 grant over three years by the Meyer Memorial Trust to start the program.
The Second Chance Housing Program's on-site case manager will help people through the process of obtaining housing.
The program will work with landlords and rental companies to address issues that keep people from finding housing, including prior evictions.
"Our clients don't really look great on paper usually, so we want to help somebody who might be willing to go out on a limb because we're helping support them, that they'll say, 'Oh ok, yeah, I'm willing to take a little bit of a risk,’" says Devereux Center executive director Tara Johnson.
The Devereux Center is working on the program and expects to have a case manager in place after the first of the year.
