Newport leads state in Albacore catch

COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- The Albacore tuna season is over and preliminary numbers show a near record value to fishermen.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife shows the value for 2013 at just over $16 million.

That amount is 35% higher than the 10-year average.

Newport led the pack with nearly 5 million pounds.

Fishermen in Charlesten landed just under 2 million pounds.
