North Bend man arraigned for alleged homicide

COQUILLE, Ore.-- A North Bend man arrested last Friday appeared before a judge Monday afternoon to be arraigned in murder charges for killing a Coos Bay man last month.

Andrew Wade Davenport, 45, is accused of killing Randall Leroy Harless, 55, in the driveway of his home in the Empire neighborhood of Coos Bay.

An autopsy shows Harless was killed not only by stab wounds to vital organs, but he also suffered skull fractures from being hit with a blunt object.

Coos County District Attorney Paul Fraiser says Harless and Davenport knew each other very well.

"I know they've been acquainted for many years," he said. "And some times they've been as some people would refer to as best friends."

Because Coos County public defenders have represented Davenport in the past, Davenport was forced to obtain representation through a public defender in Medford who attended the arraignment via telephone.

Fraiser said Coos County law enforcement is still searching for the murder weapon, and that rumors that the blunt force object used in the attack are false.
