North Bend council votes to fund four more police officers by adding additional fee
NORTH BEND, Ore. -- Four more officers will be added to the North Bend Police Department after being approved by the city council.
It was decided in a unanimous vote Tuesday night following several months of discussion.
The new positions will be funded by imposing a fee on residents, which will be added to dwelling units and businesses in North Bend, officials said.
The fee is about five more dollars a month and city officials say it'll generate over $250,000 a year.
"We've had very little push-back from the public,” said North Bend City Administrator Terence E. O’Connor. “Of course, we understand that any fee for government is not going to be a popular one, but in reality, we’re also talking about not only public safety but safety for the officers as well."
O'Connor says residents should expect to see the fee on their June water board statements.
