NORTH BEND, Ore. -- An investigation is ongoing after North Bend Police say two boys posed with fake guns and made a threat toward students on social media.

Investigators say they found out about the photos late Tuesday night.

The caption on the photos reportedly warned people not to go to school.

Police say they know who the two 17-year-old boys are and those boys say the post was meant as a joke.

However, police treated it as a credible threat and took the airsoft guns.

They say neither of the boys are enrolled in any local schools.

"We had a pretty healthy and open discussion with the children and their parents as well, and they seemed to understand the impact of what they did and how it affected not only themselves, but how it affected their fellow community members and their friends and families."

The case has been referred to the Coos County Juvenile Department for further review.
