Police capture predatory sex offender wanted on sex abuse charges
UPDATE: Springfield Police located and arrested David Reitz at an address off Lorane Highway on July 10 at about 10:30 p.m. He is currently lodged at the Lane County Jail.
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Police asked for the public's help locating a predatory sex offender wanted on new charges of sexually abusing a girl.
David Edward Reitz, 66, packed up his belongings and quit his job within hours of learning of the allegations against him, Springfield Police said.
He has not returned to his Main Street home in Springfield since.
His whereabouts as of July 10 are not known.
Reitz is 5-foot-11, 190 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a wizard on his right shoulder.
Reitz took his dog Little with him. The medium-sized black dog has white accents on its snout, chest and feet.
The DMV says Reitz has two vehicles registered in his name: a 2004 tan Chevy Colorado pickup, license plate 940 EEF; and a 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle, license plate M484654. Both vehicles are missing from his residence, police said.
Anyone with information that could assist in the apprehension of Reitz is asked to call Detective David Grice at (541) 726-3721 during normal business hours and (541) 726-3714 after hours.
Reitz is currently wanted on charges of unlawful sexual penetration and sex abuse involving a juvenile female.
The Oregon State Parole Board designated Reitz as a predatory sex offender upon his release from prison in 2007. His parole term ended in July 2012.
His prior convictions include the sexual abuse of a girl under 10 years old, as well as sex assaults on adult female victims in multiple cases dating back to the early 1980s, police said.
