Police in Sutherlin withdraw from standoff, give man opportunity to turn himself in later
SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Police in Sutherlin are hoping a wanted man will turn himself in after a standoff ended peacefully Thursday night.
Around 7:15 p.m. on September 21, the Sutherlin Police Department spotted the man in a vehicle parked in an abandoned parking lot at 1710 S. Calapooia Street.
Officers attempted to talk the man out of the car for more than 90 minutes but were unsuccessful.
"In lieu of possibly provoking a use of force incident, officers made the decision to withdraw from the situation after giving the subject the opportunity to turn himself in at a later time," Sutherlin Police Chief Troy Mills said in a news release.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and The Roseburg Police Department assisted, the report said
