Prepare Out Loud: Bay Area residents learn what to expect during a major earthquake
COOS BAY, Ore. – “Prepare Out Loud” for a major earthquake was the message at a preparedness presentation in Coos Bay Monday night.
The program was presented by the Red Cross Southwestern Oregon Community College.
The discussion included how to prepare for the Cascadia Subduction Zone and what to expect from a major earthquake.
Speaker Steve Eberlein witnessed a tsunami in the Indian Ocean triggered by a subduction zone earthquake.
"As the audience takes measures to prepare for this event, I hope that they do it out loud so that their neighbors, co-workers, loved ones, and friends see what they're doing,” he said, “because their actions can be influential over others."
One person said she’s ready to spread the word and “Prepare Out Loud.”
"The best tools are the ones between your ears,” said Hannah Baker, “so if you know what's going on, if you know what to expect, then we can prepare the best that we can. And I think the better that we are prepared as a community is the key."
The Red Cross has presented Prepare Out Loud several times throughout the Pacific Northwest.
