Reedsport officials say there's not enough time to put library tax on May ballot
REEDSPORT, Ore. -- The future of the Douglas County library in Reedsport looks bleak.
In November, voters turned down a measure to tax residents and businesses to keep Douglas County libraries open.
In a meeting on Monday, some Reedsport residents voiced support for putting another tax measure on the ballot in May, but that fell through.
"According to county council, there isn't enough time to get a referral on the ballot for a library tax,” Reedsport City Manager Jonathan Wright said, “which means that, because of the timeframes involved, there won't be any fund for our library system after April 1."
The plan now is to gather enough signatures in the hope of putting the measure on the November ballot.
