Deputies say the hunter, Lloyd Sinclair, 33, of Gold Hill, was reported to have been with his hunting partner looking for elk at about 10:30 am.
Witnesses say Sinclair went into the brush in search of the elk after having seen fresh sign, and has not been seen since.
Monday night Coos County Sheriff's deputies arrived in the remote location, and with the assistance of one person from Sinclair's hunting party, they conducted foot and vehicle searches.
Sinclair has not been found.
The Sheriff's office says the weather was cold and wet last night, and the the terrain is extremely rugged.
