Sheriff: Man suffers burns as RV goes up in flames

CHARLESTON, Ore - A man suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns to his face and hands after trying to fight a fire in his RV with cups of water, the Coos County Sheriff's Office said.

Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies and Charleston Fire Department responded to the fire at the end of Alaska Packers Road in the Charleston Boat Basin at 2:06 a.m. Wednesday.

The 34-foot 1987 Sunville motorhome was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The RV was a totla loss.

The 27-year-old was taken to Bay Area Hospital by ambulance.

He told deputies he was smoking before the fire, then left the RV for a walk. When he returned 20 minutes later, the RV was on fire. He tried to dump cups of water on the fire but was unable to control it.
